Cross River Police, Youth Council Strikes Partnership On Community Policing

By Christopher Iyang

The Cross River State Police Command and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening community policing and improving police-youth relations through closer collaboration.

The commitment was made on Monday during a courtesy visit by the National President of the NYCN, Comrade Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, and his delegation to the State Police Command Headquarters at Diamond Hill, Calabar.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Etim Godwin, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as a step towards building stronger partnerships for public safety.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Sukubo said the Youth Council remains committed to promoting peace and strengthening cooperation between young people and the Nigeria Police Force.

He noted that the Council would continue to support crime prevention, civic responsibility, and public safety through youth-focused programs, public enlightenment, and responsible information sharing.

Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, DCP Etim Godwin described community policing as the foundation of effective law enforcement, stressing that security is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of citizens, youth groups, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

According to the Command’s spokesman, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, DCP Etim said although the Police are committed to protecting lives and property, they cannot be everywhere at all times, adding that timely and credible information from members of the public remains essential in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with youth organizations and communities across the state to promote public trust and enhance security.

He also urged residents, especially young people, to support the Police through lawful conduct, prompt information sharing, and active participation in initiatives that promote peace and sustainable development.
