One Idris Abdullahi, has been arrested by the police following the fatal stabbing of another man along Barracks Road, Calabar, Cross River State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 15, 2026, reportedly stemmed from an earlier altercation involving the suspect and a group of youths popularly referred to as “Skolombo” (street boys.)
According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said a distress call was received at about 11:05 a.m. reporting that one Idris Abdullahi, 49, had allegedly stabbed a man during a confrontation along the road.
Preliminary findings indicate that Abdullahi had reportedly been involved in an altercation with some youths along Mary Slessor Road on June 14, 2026, at about 6:05 p.m, during which he allegedly sustained injuries.
The police said from investigation, the suspect subsequently traced one of the individuals allegedly linked to the earlier incident on the morning of June 15 and pursued him to Chronicle Barracks Road, where he allegedly attacked him with a knife.
The victim whose name is yet-to-be identified sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for emergency medical treatment. However, he was later confirmed dead by doctors.
ASP Sunday said the deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy while the suspect has been taken into custody and the case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The incident has further heightened concerns over violent reprisals and street-related clashes in parts of Calabar. CrossRiverWatch reported a case of a mini bus driver who allegedly stabbed a traffic officer with a screwdriver to death.
