The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Sir. Arthur Jarvis Archibong has vowed to only govern the state for four years rather than eight.
He made the covenant while addressing journalists in Calabar, the state capital alongside his running mate, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Esq., and his entourage.
“My covenant with Cross Riverians. At this juncture, let me categorically, standing squarely on the fear of God and genuine love for the generality of the people of Cross River State, make the following declarations: when elected, I will serve for only four (4) years, which is the remainder of the tenure agreeable to Cross River South in this dispensation. This is a covenant I am making with Cross Riverians and God,” he said.
He assured that he will not be absentee governor who hardly stay in the state, accusing Governor Bassey Otu of ruling the state from overseas.
“I would not be an absentee Governor. I will be constantly available to the people and only travel outside of the state very rarely and only to attend to obviously critical affairs that usher verifiable development to the state.
He continued: “I will not be Calabar Limited. I have the broad mindedness, vision, agility, love as well as the physical and mental capacity to constantly traverse the different zones of our dear state in the search for and implementation of real development for our people. I will visit our people in their wards and clans to listen to and solve their problems. I will create time to physically inspect projects and ensure that they are done in tandem with standardized specifications and completed on time. The entire state, as it should be, will be my gubernatorial constituency.”
He apledged that every zone, all local governments and ethnicities shall be part of the developmental vision of the state, to ensure development gets to the grassroots.
“We will unshackle our Local governments and allow them to enjoy their financial autonomy to facilitate proper development of our rural communities. There will be no discrimination and no form of nepotism whatsoever. All Cross Riverians not minding their political affiliations will be treated equally. We shall develop a strong code of ethics that would squarely place competence over mediocrity. Our mantra will be sustainable wealth creation,” he said.
