With a few days to the 3rd Nigerian Sports Award scheduled for Thursday in Lagos, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and his Delta and Cross River counterparts Emmanuel Uduaghan and Liyel Imoke have emerged as contenders for the Sports Governor of the Year Award.
The trio, who have contributed to sports development in Nigeria and have supported Nigerian sport athletes, were nominated by the general public for the category which was introduced last year and won by the Delta State Governor.
Governor Uduaghan was nominated for his strides in promoting sports in the state as panacea to youth unrest, among others. His award last year could also be credited with the achievement of Nigeria’s leading athletics star, Blessing Okagbare, who is also nominated for two categories of the award.
Governor Imoke’s stride was noticeable in his support for the national teams who have made Calabar their abode while Fashola has recorded achievements of reviving moribund sporting facilities in Lagos and building new ones.
General Manager Unmissable Incentives Limited, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said the governors had earned their slots.
Interestingly, the three governors were also nominated for the same category of the award last year.
