Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has begun issuing letters of appointment to Commissioners and other aides over six months after announcing their appointments.
Sources in Government House say the appointees got a message last week directing them to proceed to the governor’s office and obtain their appointment letters.
According to the source, collection began Thursday, and continued till Monday with the 28 Commissioners and the over 45 Special Advisers receiving the first batch of the letters while some of the Special Assistants have collected their letters, the ones for the remaining SAs and Personal Assistants will be prepared this week for onward issuance to the appointees.
CrossRiverWatch also gathered that the appointment letters are contained of two letters conveying the same message with the only difference being the inclusion of the salary of the appointee in the letter signed by the governor while the one signed by the Secretary to the State Government Tina Agbor was only a notification of appointment.
Sources say this may not be unconnected to unconfirmed information that the SSG may have tampered with the list of appointees as it is said she included “one or two names” of people working under her.
Furthermore, findings revealed that the governor slashed the salaries of the Commissioners and Special Advisers by around 50,000 Naira with the Commissioners set to receive 300,000 Naira monthly while the Special Advisers were worst hit as unconfirmed information suggests they will be earning 200,000 Naira monthly as against almost 300,000 in the Liyel Imoke’s administration.
It will be recalled that CrossRiverWatch recently reported that the information Commissioner Rosemary Archibong disclosed the state government will commence the remuneration and categorization of appointees for the issuance of appointment letters.
