Three expatriates working with Macmahon, a contract firm working for Lafarge Cement Company in Akamkpa Cross River state were kidnapped by a group of gunmen around 6am yesterday, Wednesday in Calabar, while their driver was shot dead by the kidnappers.

The expatriates according to our findings are from Australia, South African, and New Zealand.

According to sources at Lafarge, “the men were heading towards the Lafarge Mfamosing plant when they were attacked by the kidnappers. The driver of the vehicle in which they were was shot and killed on the spot while the expatriates were taken to an unknown destination.”

When contacted, the State Public Relations Officer of the Police, Irene Ugbo said, “Yes there was a kidnap involving 3 expatriates (foreigners) and one Nigerian, while the driver was shot dead. All hands are on deck and the matter is still under investigation”.

The State Security Adviser, Jude Ngaji also told CrossRiverWatch that; “Serious progress is being made with the investigation but we will not five the media details for obvious reasons. I hope strongly that by the end of today, we will have them back home unscathed.”

It will be recalled that CrossRiverWatch has reporterd severally that there are increased incidences of robberies, kidnapping for ransom and gang violence in Calabar and the response from the security agencies has been abysmal at best.
