The Cross River State government has introduce e-testing for all categories of drivers in the state.

According to the scheme, prospective drivers applying for driver’s licence will now have to do so through an online testing portal.

The e-Testing for drivers is one of the innovations introduced by Governor Ben Ayade administration in the state’s Department of Public Transportation (DOPT).

Disclosing this in Calabar, the state capital, the state Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer Mr. Paul Bepeh said “the service which is billed to come into operation in two months’ time will enable applicants to conduct the e-testing from the convenience of their homes with an instant result.”

Bepeh who further hinted that the portal for the exercise has since been designed added: “through this the wastage of man-hour and the hassles of waiting for officials to attend to applicants in their offices would be reduced to the barest minimum.”

While initiating the scheme, Governor Ayade noted that one of the significant milestones will be in the area of the security architecture where proper profiling of drivers will be done through data capturing.

He said data so captured will be shared with other security agencies in the state for efficient security management.

Ayade also said that investigation by security agencies revealed that most of the crimes perpetrated in the past were done by tricycle operators who turned their tools to a veritable means of committing crimes.

He assured that with the e-Testing, cab and bus drivers, including Keke operators will have their biometrics captured, a development he noted, will make it possible to apprehend anyone using his means of transportation for criminal acts.
