Security guards attached to the Cross River State office of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in the state’s capital of Calabar last week, stopped aggrieved workers from entering office.
The aggrieved casual security workers Wednesday, alleged that they had not been paid for over five months reports PUNCH Newspaper.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that a similar incident occurred in the offices of the ministry in several states including, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, Rivers and Ondo.
One of the aggrieved workers, who spoke to PUNCH Newspaper’s Mudiaga Affe on condition of anonymity said that; “They last paid us in March 2016 and each time we complain, they keep promising that we would soon be paid. Life has become unbearable for us in this harsh economic season.”
A top official, who did not want his name mentioned because he was not authorized to speak, told PUNCH that the issues raised would be resolved at the ministry’s head office in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the minister Usani Usani in a forum with APC faithfuls recently held in Calabar, had pointed out that there was no provision for the workers in the 2016 budget of the ministry.
