The travails of the Cross River state Attorney General, Mr. Joe Oshie Abang, may not be coming to an end soon as a scheduled disciplinary hearing by the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC over allegations of professional misconduct against the AG has been rescheduled from the initial Thursday 27th October, 2016 to a yet to be disclosed date.

CrossRiverWatch is still awaiting the fine details of the petition from our source but a reliable source who is privy to the previous proceedings of LPDC on the matter hinted our reporter that the petition, BB/LPDC/185/16 N.B.A V JOE ABANG ESQ, against the AG which was written before he assumed office as the state Chief Law Officer may not be unconnected with some of his “underhand financial deals” when he was still working in a law firm in Apapa, Lagos.

In a notice from the LPDC to the Body of Benchers, the Committee announced that Abang’s case along with two others were scheduled for hearing on Thursday October 27th, 2016 but CrossRiverWatch gathered that the committee could not sit and the hearing has been rescheduled.

The notice which was signed by the Secretary of the Committee, Mrs. H.A. Turaki, read: Take Notice that the below listed petitions would be coming up for hearing from 24th October to the 27th of October, 2016 at the Court of Appeal Headquarters, Three Arms Zone Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja at 10am prompt.

In the event that you fail to attend, the committee may hear and determine the petition in your absence and make the necessary Orders in accordance with the provision of the Legal Practitioners Act.”

CrossRiverWatch efforts to speak with the AG were not yet successful at the time of filing this reports as the AG was said to be at the Obudu Ranch Resort for a government function and telephone network on the ranch is said to be erratic.

It will be recalled that the AG has been embroiled in a series of controversies back home in the state where he has been accused of unilaterally declaring critics of government wanted, threatening to throw journalists in jail as well as controversially returning a no case submission in a case of extrajudicial killing of a 23 year old man by policemen.
