The late Major SSA Agba (MON) Scholarship Foundation MASF, over the weekend donated hundreds of writing materials to the Sacred Heart Primary school Bedia in Obudu local government area of northern Cross River State.
This formed part of activities marking the 26th year anniversary of the passing of the late soldier said Agba Jalingo, a top management staff of the foundation.
It also marked the one year of the passing of his wife, Ungie-Ato Agba, Jalngo’s mother which had notable personalities such as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zana Akpagu, Hon. Paul Adah, the Sarki Hausa in Ogoja, Alhaji Yakubu Adamu and the Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade on Non Indigenes (Muslim) Affairs, Alhaji Abdukarim Adam in attendance.
“We are already paying the school fees of 20 pupils and we will add 10 more this year” Jalingo said at the event which saw no fewer than 2,000 branded exercise books, pencils and pens distributed to 300 pupils of the institution.
“The foundation in partnership with the community also plans to build an 8 cubicle toilet for the school” Jalingo added.
The Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Stephen Odey who flagged off the exercise lauded the initiative which he said was the first of its kind he was witnessing.
He said he was amazed the pupils and community sacrificed their Saturday to be at the event and promised to follow up on the 2 projects ongoing in the institution till completion which he said will be in a few months.
“I personally supervise and monitor projects myself, every project that is executed by the board and I can assure you that this project will be delivered as at when due.
“I also told the children this morning, when they had delivered a spectacular presentation that when these buildings are completed, I am going to do more for them. We are going to make sure we supply them plastic tables and chairs.
“The Governor, Professor Ben Ayade is very passionate about education and I can assure that by the time we leave government, Cross River basic education will never be the same,” he said.
Earlier, Dr. Odey had embarked on an unscheduled inspection tour of ongoing renovation work in the institution.
