The Member representing Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwara Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Legor Idagbo has refuted rumors making rounds that he was humiliated at the just concluded Northern Cross River Cultural Festival, NORTHFEST in Ogoja.
Hon. Legor is rumored to have been asked to vacate his seat at the VIP section of the festival by the wife of the governor’s younger brother, Dr. Frank Ayade, for her.
But in a chat with CrossRiverWatch, Legor described the talk as appalling and advised pundits to desist from using his name to play cheap politics in Cross River.
Legor reiterated that the governor is his leader and he has utmost respect for him and also has a robust and cordial relationship with Dr. Frank Ayade and his wife.
When CrossRiverWatch asked Hon. Idagbo how the rumored incident happened, he said:
“There was no such thing. The only protocol blunder they made was that they did not reserve a chair for me on the VIP. And I confronted the protocol people, Asikpo and the rest of them and asked why they didn’t reserve chairs for us and they said they kept chairs for us somewhere down, under the sun and there was no way I could have gone to sit under the sun.
“So what I did was, I came up the VIP and waited for {the} governor to arrive the venue so I could at least greet him on the VIP. As soon as I greeted him, I strolled down, went and interacted with my Bekwara people at the Bekwara stand and interacted with some people. I enjoyed the carnival and had a nice time there before I left.
“I was hosting people in my house. I never left in anger. I never did. I even received people in my house and hosted them.
“Even the Chief of Staff came to my house that evening. The only thing I did was to tell the Chief of Staff that he should caution the governor’s protocol so that in events like this, there will be designated seats for National Assembly members and I sent Governor a text observing that as a protocol blunder. That the protocol people did not reserve a seat for me. I sent {the} governor that text.
“So I dont know where “pundits” are getting their stories from, that I was asked to stand up for anybody. If they play these their local politics, they should keep me away please.
“The Governor is my leader. If I went to a northern Cross River festival and I had any objections about something, I will stand my ground and challenge them and sit on the seat and nothing will happen. That is my constituency. It is also my festival. Rather if there is a need for me to give my seat to a visitor, I will willingly do that. I must not sit on the VIP. I have my constituents that I have to interact with, which I did happily and moved with them to my house and hosted them.
“So they should leave me out of the politics. If they have any agenda for 2019, they should follow it up and leave me out of it. The governor is my leader. I have the greatest respect for the governor and I have a good relationship with Dr. Frank and the wife. At no point in time have we had any issues.” He said.
