The Cross River State Government has announced plans to construct a world class referral hospital in Akpabuyo local government area of southern Cross River.
The commissioner for health, Dr. Inyang Asibong disclosed this during an advocacy and sensitization campaign in the local government carried out by the Save One Million Lives (SOML) program for result (PforR) team where she averred that the Governor, Mr. Ben Ayade is passionate about health care delivery in the state.
Mrs. Asibong failed to mention when the construction will commence, the duration of the contract and the model for the operation of the hospital.
But, CrossRiverWatch had reported that the state had made available One Billion Naira seed fund for the construction of 18 referral hospitals tagged “Ayadecare Centres” in partnership with General Electric and a first generation bank. this came about one month after Nigeria’s minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole broke ground for a referral hospital in Calabar.
However, she said work will soon commence in earnest for the building of a mega post secondary health facility in the local government in preparedness for the Ayadecare program which kicks off tomorrow (Tuesday) and averred that the campaign was to aid them know the different packages and benefits involved in the program.
The Director General of the state’s primary health care development agency, Dr. Betta Edu in her remarks warned against the dangers of patronizing traditional birth attendants.
“Women should stop going to traditional homes and prayer houses to birth, but go and benefit from Health facilities free services under Ayade care,” said Mrs. Edu who also stressed the need for people to stay away from all kind of drugs and chemicals that endangers their health such as hemps, cigarettes, tramadol as well as dangerous local drink combinations that could affect the liver or lung.
She pledged the state readiness to always carry out interventions and sued for the use of long lasting insecticide treated nets provided by the state.
The residents were also advised by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Joseph Bassey to avail themselves for the upcoming round of vaccination against measles.
