The Chairman of Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSSIEC), Dr. Ushie Michael Anake, has revealed that the reason why Local Government election has not conducted in the State since Ayade administration came onboard in 2015.
According to him in a press conference this afternoon in his office at Bishop Moynach Avenue, State House Estate, Calabar the Ayade administration couldn’t conduct LG election because “of internal issues and funds”.
He maintained that Governor Ayade has “given go ahead to conduct the election on February 22nd, 2020 and money will be released”.
His words, “As obtained in section 204 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in accordance to section 20, subsection 1 A and B of the Cross River State electoral law, Sen. Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State has approve and directed the conduct of of local government election in the State.
“Notice is hereby give this day 27 November, 2019 that Cross River State Electoral Commission (CROSSIEC) shall conduct the said Local Government election on the 22nd of February 2020.
“Accordingly, all political parties are therefore to commence political activities gear toward a successful and violence free elections, detailed timetable and elections guidelines are available for collection at the commissions office Number 5 Bishop Moynach Avenue, State Housing Estate Calabar, with effect from the day of this publication. the commission direct further that all political parties should adhered strictly to this factor”.
He urged all parties to go ahead to do their campaigns but warned that any unit that constitute violence and ballot box snatching during the course of the elections will be cancelled.
