Rev. Sis. Ivon Maria Nwankwo, Director in charge of the Catholic Archdiocese of Calabar Infant Jesus Orphanage has commended the members of Obudu Great Friends Klub Calabar for their visit to the home recently.
She said, “I am delighted for your kind visit, just as you’ve come that’s how others come and it’s by these and other ways we survive”. Maintaining that their greatest challenge is that of accommodation, “Which we commend people like you for coming because as a result of regular support from good spirited individuals like you we’ve been able to start a little building project”. She appealed to other groups and individual to emulate the steps of the club.
Earlier, the President of the club, Mr. John Ukwu Agwupuye while exchanging pleasantries with the Sisters at the home noted that “Our coming here today is to encourage you to continue in the good work you’re doing, we want to identify with you by giving the little we can as an act of love, care and shore up”.
Mr. Ukwu noted that “it is not what you bring that matters but with the heart you give which is why the little time spent with them is like a mantra to keep the children going on in life facing it with boldness because the worst that can befall a man is when you have no home, parents and loved ones of the same blood around you which has a lot of detrimental effect”.
Before visiting the orphanage the members of the club had a 5 kilometer brisk walk which was aimed at creating awareness and serve as a fitness exercise for members.
In separate interviews Ntufam Peter Oti, Acting Chairman Cross River State Internal revenue Service and Dr. Francis Adie, Director of Administration Ministry of Agriculture, who are both members of the club said that the road exercise is both an awareness and fitness exercise adding that the club is open to only sons and daughters of Obudu.
Amongst the gift items donated are food stuffs, toiletries, exercise books, school bags, disinfectants and cash.
