Former beauty queen to Africa’s biggest street party, Carnival Calabar Queen, CCQ, Queeneth Orok has taken another bold step to host a pageant for kids on children’s day celebration.
The kiddie’s pageantry, which is tagged ‘Children’s Day Prince and Princess,’ held at Transcorp, Calabar; Tuesday as part of her contribution to Nigeria children’s day celebration.
The maiden edition of the event saw Master Wisdom Dominic Edet, 10, emerge Prince of the contest; while Miss Tamar Emmanuel Edem, 6, coveted both the Princess and Best Dressed Princess award of the contest. Each of them carted home cash prizes of five hundred dollar each.
Following the Prince of the contest was Master Louise Inameti Archibong, 7, who emerged both first runner-up and best dressed prince; while Miss Ekemini Ifiok Udofia, 9, clinched first runner-up for the princess category taking home two hundred dollars each.
Master Emmanuel Mfonabasi Mendie, 10, and Miss Wynona Oke-Oghana Osima, 5, emerged second runner-ups for the prince and princess category respectively with a cash prize of hundred dollars each accorded them.
Also carting home various awards were Master Emmanuel Godswill Udoh, 6, who emerged as the Most Photogenic Prince and Miss Edwina Effiong Anam, 9, the Most Photogenic Princess; while the Most Handsome Prince went to Master Augustine Asuquo, 5 and Miss Esther Frank Ntekim coveted both Most Beautiful and Most Creative Princess.
The Most Well Behaved Princess went to Miss Deborah Aniekan Inyang, 6; Miss Jo-Anne effiong Anam, 5, took home the Most Friendly; Miss Mfoniso Ifiok Ebong, 6, succeeded as Best Talented Princess; while Miss Emem Christopher Stephen, 2, was awarded the Youngest Contesting Princess for the pageant.
Speaking shortly after the event the ex-CCQ queen and CEO of Queenly Kiddies Make-Over, Queeneth Orok, the initiator of the event while expressed hope that the event will continue to be platform for children to showcase their talents. She added that she was motivated by her intense love for children to hold the event.
In her words “being a carnival queen, I have always thought of something to do for the children and I thought of it like why can’t a child come out and do a run way or a beauty pageant, so I thought of it and put everything together.”
“The whole idea of this event is to bring out the talent in them, bring out the potentials and eliminate shyness” the pageantry diva added.
On their part the Prince and Princess of the maiden edition of the pageant while thanking their parents for their support of helping them win the pageant told our reporter they would use their crowns to better their grades in school.
Highlights of the event featured dance performances by Trinity dance group; piano play by Obasi Joe Edet; crowning of the prince and princess of the contest and cutting of cake.
Personalities at the event included the Head of Administration of Cross River Film Agency (CRFA), Ruth Odu; Cross River Miss Photogenic, Queen Felicia Boco; and Cross River Most Beautiful Girl (CRMBG) pageants including first runner-up, Queen Ndang Ekpenyong; second runner-up, Queen Amba Takim Alobi; and CRMBG Face of Catherine Make-Over, Queen Christabel Agbor Manyo.
The judges were ex-Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, MBGN queen and CEO of Belle’sabel Grooming Agency, Isabella Ayuk; 2010CCQ queen and MD of Black and Gold Events Ltd, Mayen Ekpo;actress and 2011CCQ queen, Eluke Adaeze ; founder of Leyi Ush Fashion styling and consulting, Sandra Itu; and CEO and Creative Director of La Shakara Wears, Joe Edet.
While on-air personality, Diana Mary and comic icons, Robert Ekpo and Last Prophet were the MCs of the event.
