Former Presidential Liaison Officer to the National Assembly, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mohammed Garba and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja branch have joined the list of the dignitaries who have been confirmed for the CrossRiverWatch 1st Year Anniversary Lecture billed for Calabar, the Cross River State capital on August 27, 2013.
The 1st year lecture themed: “The Role of Community Journalism in Strengthening Democracy”, will be delivered by the 2013 winner of the ‘Woman of Courage Award’ from the US State Department and President, Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin.
The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke is the Special Guest of Honor in the event which will be chaired by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the State, Barrister Mike Igini.
Award winning journalists, Deji Badmus, Gbenga Aruleba and former Managing Director of National Life Newspaper and now Chief Press Secretary to the Cross River Governor, Mr. Christian Ita and the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umannah are discussants for the lecture.
Other special guests that have been invited for the program include: Barrister Festus Keyamo, Barrister Obono Obla, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Publisher SaharaReporters, Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, Senator Prof. Benedict Ayade, Senator Bassey Otu, Hon. Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, Hon. Eno Owan and Hon. Bassey Ewa.
According to the Chairman, Anniversary Planning Committee of the Lecture, Mr. Charley Ofem, the event will be an auspicious occasion for the media house to take stock and appreciate the people of the state for their cooperation in the past one year as well as solicit their participation in strengthening the democratic process in the State for the benefit of the people.

It’s an indication of the level of interest we have generated.
