The Senator representing Cross River North in the National Assembly, Senator Ben Ayade, in a colorful ceremony today flagged of his free mobile food bank program in Yala Local Government Area, Cross River North Senatorial District.
The event which held at Okuku Central Motor Park saw beneficiaries including the aged, retired, the blind and the physically challenged smiling home with varieties of free food such as rice, yams, garri, beans, noddles and beverages.
The Senator who was represented by his Special Assistant, Dr. Steve Odey, said, as a passionate philanthropist, giving succor to people gives his boss particularly considering the fact that for any living thing to survive, especially human beings, you need food.
Dr. Odey further disclosed that apart from opening the food banks across the five local governments of the northern senatorial district, Senator Ayade has dedicated five new trucks and a bus to ensure effective distribution of his free food to all nooks and crannies of Ogoja, Bekwara, Obudu, Obanlikwu and Yala LGAs.
He further noted that Ayade Motors will be the major source of sustainability for the free food bank program while another 10% of the Senators earnings from the National Assembly and another 10% from his earnings in oil and gas will continue to be used to buy food from farmers within Cross River North Senatorial District.
The first phase of the program continues till August 23, 2014.
