Results received from the eighteen local government areas of Cross River State so far indicate that sixty nine percent of voters turned out to collect their permanent voters cards during the distribution of the cards which took place between August 15 to 17 in the state.
Mr. Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC for the state said though not all the results have been collated as at Wednesday evening occasioned by the difficult terrain in the state, but the turnout was impressive and encouraging right from the first to the last day.
“Thumbs up for the people of the state who responded to the clarion call and came out in their numbers to collect their cards which indicates their preparedness for the 2015 elections”.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner said Bekwara recorded the highest turnout with ninety percent while Bakassi is the least with just 1.4% turn out and attributed the situation in Bakassi to the difficult terrain in the area. “This result is not conclusive because we are still expecting more results from the field but what we have so far is impressive”.
He said the collection of PVC will continue after the Continuous Voter Registration Exercise scheduled to take place between the 20th and 25th of the month of August. “However, in this case the voters who did not collect their cards at the polling unit will have to go to their local government area offices of INEC to get the cards”.
