The Cross River State chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress, NLC has inaugurated a committee to monitor the distribution of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) and the Continues Voters Registration (CVR)in the state.
The 65 man Civic Responsibility Committee was charged with powers to sensitize the electorate in the 18 local government areas and 25 state constituencies of Cross River State.
Speaking during the inauguration, State Chairman of NLC, Comrade John Ushie said workers role in the electoral processes cannot be under estimated as majority of voters are either workers or dependent on workers.
Oshie who said the era of sit down and look where workers are relegated to the background were over, stressing that the major responsibility of the committee was to educate voters on their right and why they should participate in the electoral processes.
He said part of the committee’s terms of reference was the need to sensitize the public on their right to vote and be voted for through a participatory process which the committee is to take into consideration.
The committee was inaugurated just as the Cross River state government declared Friday 15th August ,2014, a work free day for workers to participate in the collection, distribution and continuous registration of permanent Voters Card.
