Female students of the University of Calabar are lamenting the proximity of the newly constructed telecommunication mast to their hostel.
The new mast is said to be constructed by mobile phone giant, MTN and will serves the University of Calabar and beyond.
Some of the students who expressed their concerns about the mast to CrossRiverWatch were worried about the health hazards the mast will expose them to.
According to a 300 level student of nursing science, the mast emits some radioactive elements which are harmful to life. The lady who identified herself simply as Edidiong appealed to the school management to look into the matter.
Also speaking, a final year student in the faculty of education who disclosed her identity as Nonso berated the school authority for condoning the construction of a mast very close to the hostel where students reside.
She accused the school authority of loving money more than the life of the students, because according to her, if the mast should fall any day, a vast majority of life will be claimed.
Meanwhile, one of the engineers at the construction site has informed CrossRiverWatch that a huge sum of money has been paid to the school management and the SUG to secure the place.
Although before the construction of the mast female students have been complaining of inadequate network service in their hostels
