This year’s Best of Nollywood Award, BON, which aimed at acknowledging the resilience of Nigerian film makers amidst the economic recession, took place last Sunday, at El-Dorda Event Center, Aba, Abia State.
Hosted by ace comedian, Okey Bakassi, and actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, the high point of the star-studded ceremony was when three veteran actors Fidelis Duker, Sola Sobowale, and Chika Okpala popularly known as Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwogbo alias 4.30 of the now rested TV drama, The New Masquerade were honored with the 2016 BON Special Recognition awards.
Cross River born Fidelis Duker who dedicated his award to his late mum said, “I remember with nostalgia my first film titled SKELETON (in Igbo language) produced 23 years ago and how I went to the popular pound road Aba searching for a distribution deal.
“However fast forward 23years later as I return to Aba to be honored. Like I said I dedicate the award to my late mum who raised the three thousand Naira then to commence my foray into the cinematic world, my ever dependable and loving wife, my children, my colleagues, fans and almighty God.”
Other winners were Alex Ekubo, Toyin Aimahku,Judith Audu and Tope Oshin who won Best Documentary of the Year for her documentary on Amaka’s Kin.
In his address, the CEO of BON, Seun Oloketuyi, said, “The creative industry is a fertile ground for governments and investors to sow in Nigeria, more especially in the period that our nation gravely needs to diversify.
This jury hopes that our state governments especially will look at ways to raise the revenue profile of their states by investing in this industry.
