Communal Crisis: Former Assembly Man, Alex Irek Accuses Ayade Of Negligence

The minority leader of the seventh Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable Alex Irek has accused the state of negligence of duty in the protracted Osopong and Izzi communal crisis.

Mr. Irek, a former chairman of Obubra local government area said that the governor, Senator Ben Ayade had failed to visit despite his counterpart in Ebonyi state, Engineer Dave Umahi visiting thrice.

According to Irek who stated this Sunday in Calabar while speaking as a guest on a topical issues based program, ‘The Dialogue With Agba Jalingo’ which airs weekly on Hit 95.9 FM, the office of the Deputy Governor was very vital to achieving peace.

He called on the government to be proactive in handling communal crisis across the state and advised residents not to resort to killing each other as it is not a sustainable way to handling communal conflicts.

On the recent Inyima and Onyadama crisis, he averred that the people are ready for Government to take over the land under contention as long as the proposed Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps training school is built.

CrossRiverWatch had reported that Obubra women recently shut down the local government council secretariat while protesting against alleged neglect of the Osopong people by relevant authorities.
