The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has frowned at the disregard for traffic laws and reckless driving in Calabar metropolis.

The Command expressed this in a press release signed and made available by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo, for the Commissioner of Police – CP Gyogo Augustine Grimah.

CP Grimah said he observed with dismay the spate of utter disregard and violations of road traffic laws in the metropolis by some motorists especially in a major intersection.

He said “These lawless behaviors by motorists must stop so as not to endanger the lives of other road users.” adding that “in order to put sanity on the roads, henceforth, any violation of this law will be contravened and prosecuted accordingly.”

The press release reads in part: “The Nigeria Police, Cross River State Command in particular has observed with dismay, the spate of utter disregard and violations of Road Traffic laws (RTL) in Calabar Metropolis by some motorists. These lawless traffic activities at major road intersections, roundabouts, and junctions are vehicles driving against traffic, and wrong turns with impunity.

“Fragrant disregard to right of way, non-adherence to U-turn signs, and failure to stop at zebra crossing for pedestrians.

“Other observations include widespread commercial motorcycle operations in the metropolis, despite a ban by the Cross River State Government. These lawless behaviors by motorists must stop so as not to endanger the lives of other road users.

“The Command hereby warned all motorists to desist from this unheeding practice. In order to put sanity on the roads, henceforth, any violation of this law will be contravened and prosecuted accordingly.”
