Planned State 14km Maiden Marathon Will Still Hold – Government Clarifies

The Cross River State Government has re-echoed that the planned maiden State 14 km marathon bill for Saturday, March 30th, 2024 will still hold.

In a public service announcement from the office of the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu and signed by the CPS – Gill Nsa, cleared that insinuations it will not hold due to the monthly general sanitation in the State.

The CPS said while the sanitation exercise will take place simultaneously, the 14 km marathon, which will commence by 7 am, will take off from Millennium Park through the entire Carnival route and terminate at the Marina resort.

He noted that participants and organizers of the marathon will have a special clearance that will ease their movement within the sanitation hours.

“This is to clarify that the scheduled Cross River State maiden Marathon event will still take place as planned this Saturday, March, 3Oth, 2024 by 7. am.

“It will happen simultaneously with the monthly sanitation exercise which is between 6. am to 10 am as announced by the Ministry of Environment.

“The 14 km marathon, which will commence by 7 am, will take off from the Millennium Park through the entire Carnival route and terminate at the Marina resort.

“Participants and organizers of the marathon will have a special clearance that will ease their movement within the sanitation hours.

“The two events are important to the government. While the marathon is part of the measures to rejig the rich tourism calendar of the State, the sanitation exercise keeps Calabar, our State capital, as the cleanest in the country.

“Accordingly, the general public is to take proper notice of the two events.”
