Messages of felicitations have continued to pour on Cross River State first female Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Archibong Bassey.
Mrs. Archibong a few days ago took over the leadership of State NUJ chairmanship mantle following the appointment of its former chairman, Mr. Gill Nsa, who was appointed the Chief Press Secretary by Governor Bassey Otu.
She is a Staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Calabar, and a former financial secretary of the Union.
The development has attracted applause across boards including politicians and fellow journalists in the State with notably the Senator representing Cross River Southern senatorial district, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jrn, who has charged the new Chairman on integrity, professionalism and accountability.
“Your extensive experience and dedication will undoubtedly steer the Press toward greater heights, fostering informed dialogue and Press societal progress. I am confident that under your guidance, the NUJ in Cross River State will flourish, upholding the principles of integrity, professionalism, and transparency,” he lauded.
Similarly, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Cross River State chapter, have congratulated the new NUJ Boss.
NAWOJ through the chairman Mrs. Rekpene Uket doff hat for Archibong for standing tall and breaking the jinx to be the first female state Chairperson to usher a new dawn in the State Council.
“The Association commends her steadfastness and zeal while serving the State because prior to her election, Comrade Eso had served as the State’s Council’s Financial Secretary for six years.”
She charges the Union to rally around her with full support for younger women to emulate.
Comrade Archibong and other excos were elected at a special congress held at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center, Calabar. The election was supervised by two National Officers from Zone F. They are expected to head the Union till April, 2025.
Others also elected are Comrade Sunny Inah of the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, (CRBC) Chapel Calabar as Vice Chairman, Comrade Mike Abang of Business Day Newspaper, from the correspondents Chapel, and Comrade Ekong Okpa, from the Chronicle Chapel.
