Governor Otu Appoints Eyo Ekpo, Six Others Into Local Government Service Commission

The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, has approved the appointment of a new Chairman and six Commissioners into the Cross River State Local Government Service Commission.

The appointments were announced in a press release dated March 9, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, on behalf of the state government.

According to the statement, Barrister Eyo Nsa Ekpo has been appointed as Chairman of the commission, while six other individuals will serve as commissioners.

Those appointed as commissioners include Dr. Ekeng Effiong Edet (Commissioner I), Dr. Emmanuel Itakui Ntuyan (Commissioner II), Dr. Godwin Ondale Akpor (Commissioner III), Hon. Obia Lawrence Bassey (Commissioner IV), Hon. Rita Ayim (Commissioner V), and Hon. John Olom Otu (Commissioner VI).

The state government said the appointments were part of the governor’s effort to strengthen the administration and effectiveness of the local government system in Cross River State.

“The Governor’s action stems from his firm desire to ensure the viability of the local government system, as well as his commitment to the ethos of constitutional provisions,” the statement said.

The government further stated that the appointments take immediate effect.

The Local Government Service Commission is responsible for overseeing administrative matters relating to staff and operations within the local government system, making it a critical institution in the governance structure of the state.
