By Margaret John, House of Assembly Correspondent

The Cross River State House of Assembly has reconvened for its plenary session after about 7 weeks following the burial of late Hon. Steven Ukpukpen in July, 2018.

The session which took place on Tuesday, witnessed the swearing in of Hon. Abbey Ukpukpen to replace her husband, the late Steve Ukpukpen as member representing Obudu State constituency.

Mrs. Abbey Ukpukpen who was recently elected under the umbrella of the PDP to represent the Obudu State constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, was sworn in as a member of the 8th Assembly to complete her husband’s tenure for the next nine months.

In a brief interview with newsmen, the newly elected Ukpukpen expressed mixed feelings about her induction into the Assembly owing to the circumstances that led to her being there.

“It’s a mixed feeling, we all know the circumstances that led to me being here today, I feel really touched and blessed at the same time, saddened but ofcourse blessed. Blessed because the Governor, the people of Obudu gave us a chance. I say us because my children are also involved, a chance to complete my husband’s tenure. So its a mixed feeling for me.” She said.

She also stated that “My cause here will be to represent the widows and everything that they stand for and to be a voice for them.”
