The Era Of Akonfe BY BESHIBESHEBE MARTINS

Hon Peter Akonfe Undiandeye. Popular as Peter Pars. The 2nd most youngest chairman of Obudu LGA after Barr. Venatius Ikem of the 80s. He’s a man who’s time has come. Hon. Peter has come in a digital era. The time when the third tier of govt is bouncing back. The time autonomy has become the order.

Hon. Peter himself is a green horn. Coming from a House where impulsive men of action lives. Hon Peter will have enough to lean on and perform.

Hon. Peter towered over all other contenders during the campaign. His campaign was actually a carnival, pointing towards the outcome of the election. Throughout the corners of Obudu, both the young and the old wanted him to rule over them.

As Hon. Peter takes over the mantle today, the length and breath of Obudu are waiting for him to make positive changes in the next three years.

STEP 1
Though very young, Hon Peter needs to quickly set up a think tank, comprising of both the old and the young. He should always give them a listening ear and always pick out the best of their opinion and work with.

Pars should also unite the youth groups in Obudu in all shapes. There should be an understanding that wouldn’t break down social order as we do see. Pars is the King of Boys.

STEP 2
Tap from Dr. Abu Undiandeye and High Chief Tony. The duos had held sway at the council when there was no autonomy. They were glorified errand boys but they still made their mark. Hon Peter can gain from their weaknesses and strengthen himself. They should also avail themselves to him anytime he needs them.

STEP 3
Obudu is one of the best places to live under the sun. Much more than Calabar, Lagos and Abuja. Though the Obudu cattle Ranch is not in good shape, it’s still a tourist destination for so many around the world. Hon Peter can make himself more stable there than relocating to any capital. He only needs to create and upgrade few facilities. In doing this, it will enable him see where the problems with our people lies. He will even find it easy to solve them and get the real persons to assist him tackle.

STEP 4
Obudu is rich in both human and national resources. Revenue generation is so important too. Internal Revenue generation is the potency and strength of any tier of govt. Much efforts be made to discover more than the existing. By this, federal allocation would only be a complimentary. More makets and the existing ones needs to be developed and modernised. Decades ago, LGs do have their ministries of Works, Agriculture and rural development. Roads too used to be opened. Hon Peter can return to that era.
More so, the road linking Betukwel, Ohong, Bedia, Ibong and Okorshie is in bad shape and needs attention. You can do it.

STEP 5
Three years is too small solve the accumulated problems of the rural Obudu. It’s suggested that Hon Peter can only pick the solvable ones and make a mark on them. Obudu Township Stadium was at a time very beautiful and was later relegated and deteriorated. There’s need to revive it and side by side the local govt team. The Lawn Tennis courts too and the relaxation spots needs to be renovated. The council Hall itself needs to be given a face lift too. More so, few roads needs to be opened to give some local communities a pride of belonging.

STEP 6
Hon. Peter needs to talent spot few young men and women. Develop them in anyway he wants. This is because he has a future too. He can develop them educationally, project them elsewhere or economically so that they will have a might when need be.

Above all, we must thank you and appreciate you. You’re so special. Coming into politics for the first time and getting all the votes in a Contestable election. So many have tried it from your age till retirement and never had a vote despite their might. Like the Biblical Peter, you’re a Knight (KSM). The church will pray for you and you won’t fail in your mission. We believe in you.
Congratulations, our leader.
