Political leaders in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State have been admonished against taking decisions that would truncate the peace, stability and tranquility in the council area.
The people of Ogep ward gave the advice at the public hearing on the zoning of the chairmanship position in this year’s local government election billed for August.
The Forum was organized by the zoning committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the Boki Community Secondary School, Okundi.
Speaking on behalf of Ogep ward, a leader in the ward, Chief Simon Agbor Edum recalled that, zoning of the chairmanship seat in Boki Local Government Area was initiated by the Boki socio-cultural organization, Ochibe-Boki, stressing that the Ochibe-Boki zoning formula which has been embraced by all political parties in the local government elections in the area, has enthroned political stability, fair play, harmony and unity across Boki local government area.
Chief Agbor Edum noted that since all the six old clans of Boki local government Area have taken their turns to occupy the chairmanship of council area, it was only logical that Abo clan be allowed to produce the council chairman in this year’s council polls.
He observed that it was a misnomer for PDP to set up a zoning committee for Boki Council chairmanship, which he said created an impression that the party was jettisoning the Ochibe-Boki zoning arrangement.
Speaking in the same vein, the special adviser to the Cross River State Governor on legal matters, Chief Mark Obi advised the PDP against taking anti Boki decisions that would portray the party in bad light.
The special adviser dissociated himself from activities of the PDP zoning Committee, noting that as a loyal and proud son, he stood for the zoning formula of Ochibe-Boki, which made it mandatory for Abo old clan to produce Boki council Chairman in the 2013 polls.
Mr. Christopher Bisong of Ekpashi ward in his address on the occasion was emphatic that it was the turn of Abo to produce the next chairman of Boki Local Government Council.
Mr. Bisong recalled that since the inception of Ochibe-Boki zoning arrangement, the Boki council chairmanship seat has always rotated between the two state constituencies, stressing that since the incumbent chairman was from Boki two state constituency, Abo clan in constituency one should take the next turn.
At a similar forum held in Wula, Eastern Boki in constituency one, the people of constituency one were unanimous that the Abo clan should produce the next Boki Council Chairman.
