To beef up the capacity of security agencies in Cross River State to prevent and fight crime especially during this yuletide season, a petroleum marketing company, Dozzy Oil and Gas Limited on Friday donated five Toyota hilux vans to the Cross River State Government.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the state government, Mr Efiok Cobham, the State Deputy Governor said meaningful development cannot be achieved without peace so security is serious business in the state that is why much is invested both financially and materially in crime prevention and fighting which accounts for the peace and tranquility the state enjoys.
He said the state is planning to launch a Security Trust Fund to raise a reservoir of funds and other materials needed to keep the state in its current position as the most peaceful in the country.
“We are the preferred destination in leisure and in business in Nigeria so we take the business of crime prevention and fighting seriously; we are planning a Security Trust Fund to raise the needed funds and resources to support our security agencies to continue to maintain a peaceful environment”.
Mr Cobham said the donation would significantly help the state to continue to be safer for businesses to thrive and called on other individuals and organizations to join forces with the state in maintaining a peaceful environment by contributing their own quota. “What Dozzy Oil and Gas has done today is laudable; it is not the only company doing business in Cross River neither is it the biggest company but what they have done demonstrates enough goodwill which other individuals and businesses should join”.
The State Security Adviser, Mr Rekpene Bassey said for effective policing, crime fighting and prevention in any society, the human factor is necessary and the gesture by Dozzy Oil and Gas should be appreciated by all who love a peaceful and secure environment.
He called on others to emulate the effort by Dozzy Oil and assist the state in ensuring that peace and tranquility is maintained.
Mr Daniel Chukwudozie, The Chairman of Dozzy Oil and Gas said the five Toyota vans are to assist the state continue to provide maximum protection to the people and businesses operating in the state .
“Since we started operations here in 2005, nobody has been molested or threatened and nobody would like to leave the place where he is protected to somewhere else this donation is to ensure that everybody continues to feel well protected.”
He said each of the five vehicles costs the company the sum of six million naira, which according to him is a reasonable investment for a secure business environment.
