The Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government Council, Hon. Edith Amadi has suspended the salaries of monarchs of the warring neighboring communities, Ediba and Usumutong in Abi LGA.
Over the weekend, there were reports of breach of the ceasefire agreement signed by both parties over a month ago. While one person is still reportedly missing, one ear of another man was also chopped off after been attacked in a farm over the weekend.
In a statement signed by Azogor Ideba, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Abi Council and made available to CrossRiverWatch, the Chairman said the salaries of the monarchs will remain suspended until permanent peace is restored.
The statement said: “Following recent skirmishes between the two Communities of Ediba and Usumutong in Abi Local Government Area which are in breach of a subsisting Cease Fire Agreement signed by both communities on Monday 4th August, 2014, the Chairman of Abi Local Government Council Hon Edith Amadi has decided to stop forthwith the stipends of all the chiefs of the two communities until permanent peace is restored.”
This, according to the Chairman, has become necessary to compel the chiefs to further look in-wards and concertedly find lasting solution to the protracted crisis.
She said that her administration will no longer tolerate further breach of the peace process already instituted by the government and other concerned authorities including the Obol Lopon of Ugep.
Hon Amadi warned that the Abi Local Government Council will not hesitate to suspend or revoke the certificates of the affected chiefs if they fail to call their subjects to order and desist from actions in breach of the August 4 Agreement.
She said that the suspension of the stipends takes immediate effect until further notice.
