Mrs. Alami Ayade, the wife of the younger brother to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Mr. Frank Ayade has denied reports linking her with the trial of a suspended lecturer of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Paschal Aboh for impersonation.

Mr. Aboh was arrested and reported confessing to the crime of impersonating a resit student at the Bwari, Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School in early May 2022.

He was arraigned alongside one Idoko Odeh on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, before Magistrate Taribo Jim of the Bwari division of the Magistrate’s Court.

The name of the resit student was not published and CrossRiverWatch wrote to the Nigerian Law School for details, which the Council of Legal Education declined to oblige.

“Both Administrative and criminal processes in the matter under review are ongoing and, as expected, the Council of Legal Education will issue a statement accordingly in due course,” the letter signed by the Deputy Director and Head of Information, and Protocol of the Council, Chinedu Ukekwe, and dated June 8, 2022.

But, CrossRiverWatch has since written the Attorney-General of the Federation for more information, while sources disclosed that Mrs. Ayade was the unnamed resit student.

“I am still surprised why the authorities are finding it difficult to name the person whom we all know already, but honestly this is Nigeria and powerful people always have something to do to escape,” said one source who described it as, “unusual,” given the fact that the school always, “make sure we set the example by respecting the rule of law.”

But, Mrs. Ayade denies these. She described them as “baseless and untrue” according to a statement shared by a journalist, George Odok.

The statement read in part: “The matter is already in court. The suspect was arrested on May 10th and exams finished on May 13th, 2022 with her writing all her papers. How then was she involved?

“The suspect did not impersonate Mrs. Frank Ayade as purported by CrossRiverWatch. More so, Mr. Aboh can be contacted and the necessary case file gotten from the named Magistrate Court for the correct information on the matter.

“The result of the examination would soon be out, and the public would know the truth. Members of the public are hereby advised not to consume the false reports being circulated about a case that is in court, as the truth would soon be made public.”
