The Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas Resources in the 10th National Assembly and Senator representing Cross River North District has launched a portal for his constituents who are students at different levels to apply for a bursary.
The lawmaker aims to disburse NGN100,000 to 500 students, 100 from each of the five Local Government Areas that make up the senatorial district across 11 tertiary institutions in the State.
The institutions listed include the University of Calabar, University of Cross River State, Degree Program Unit Of The Federal College of Education, Federal College of Education Obudu, and the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (Former College of Education) Akamkpa.
The Federal Polytechnic Ugep, the Institute of Technology and Management Ugep, College of Health Technology Calabar, and all the Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery in Calabar, Itigidi, Ogoja, and Obudu.
Only natives of Bekwarra, Obanliku, Obudu, Ogoja, and Yala Local Government Areas across the 11 tertiary institutions are encouraged to apply.
The portal also shows that, “successful applicants will be contacted, and the bursary paid directly into the accounts of beneficiaries,” with the maximum support per applicant being NGN100,000, while adding that, “registrations by proxies will not be considered.“
The portal also said the need for consent on use of certain information in a report to be published upon conclusion is for, “accountability and transparency purposes,” adding that, “those who do not consent to the use of certain data risk disqualification.”
“Furthermore, use of proxy accounts risks automatic disqualification,” the information on the portal read.
