The heavy downpour witnessed in Calabar on Thursday, July 9, 2026, has left a one-year-old baby dead after ferocious flood broke into an apartment.
The rain which began in the wee hours at about 2:AM, has already left many residents in some Calabar devastated as it has been in time past.
The recent incident happened along Mayne Avenue by Atu Street, Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.
This Reporter gathered that the little baby girl and her parents were caught off guard while asleep.
An eyewitness, Miss Victoria Otu, explained that before the parents could realize the situation the water had filled the room up to the neck level, giving them no time to rescue the infant.

Speaking on the destruction of properties, Victoria while counting her losses said her hard copy results, other vital documents were all sucked, goods, clothing and other valuables destroyed.
A business man, Emmanuel Effiong, told CrossRiverWatch he has lost more than 2,000 empty crates which cost his company a lot. Other residents recount their loses to include certificates, textbooks, food items and other damaged properties.
Apart from lost of life and valuables, there are visible evidence of collapsed gutters and walls.

Some major sections of the asphalt pavement in the community have been washed, leaving a large crack and raised surface that poses a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians.
Residents of the area have prayed the local and state government to come to their aid by fixing and clearing drainages, road construction to avert future deaths and damages.
