#COVID19: Cross River Records 3rd Death, 3 New Cases

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 438 new confirmed cases of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the country for July 24, 2020.

The number of confirmed cases now stands at 39,977 of which 16,948 have recovered and 856 have died.

In the distribution of new cases recorded for Friday, Cross River has three taking the total case tally to 37.

But, disparities remain in the number of deaths and those discharged in the reports of the NCDC and the state.

While the NCDC says there are 33 active cases, the state in a tweet on Saturday announced the three new cases of which 2 are from Ogoja while 1 is in Calabar South.

It also said one more death had been recorded increasing the number of fatalities to 3 while nine have so far been discharged leaving an active case tally of 25.

As at press time, data from the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the John Hopkins University shows that the continent has recorded 5,636,898 confirmed cases. 487,068 have recovered with 17,563 deaths recorded leaving an active case tally of 327,637.

Globally, 16,183,869 cases have been confirmed with 9,899,492 recovering while 647,479 have died leaving an actively infectious tally of 5,636,898.
