President Jonathan Set to Commission Cross River 550MW Power Plant

The epileptic power Supply in Cross River State and its environs will soon be a thing of the past as all is set for the Odukpani Independent Power plant to be put into use.

President Goodluck Jonathan, disclosed this at Mfanmosing, Tuesday stressing that a 550 megawatt Power plant would soon be commissioned in Odukpani local government area of Cross River state to address the incessant low power supply in the area.

He disclosed this during the groundbreaking ceremony of United Nigeria Cement Company (UniCem)’s cement factory in Mfamonsing Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Jonathan, who was represented by his Vice President, Namadi Sambo, also revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed for the construction of a railway line from Lagos to Calabar, up to Obudu Ranch Resort.

Other development projects in the pipeline according to Jonathan include the dredging of the Calabar River Channel.

Also speaking at the event, Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River who was represented at the event by his deputy, Efiok Cobham commended the President’s transformation agenda, which he said had given impetus to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country.

According to Cobham, Cross River state has attracted over $3bn in the last four years; a feat that has continued to make the state an investment destination.
