The Cross River International Youth Day colloquium, as part of the International Youth Day Celebrations, held yesterday at the Transcorp Hotel, Calabar with youths from various facets of live, associations and organisations in attendance.
Governor Ben Ayade was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Asu Okang.
In a keynote address, the Commissioner enumerated the Safe Spaces created by this administration for young people ranging from appointments of young people to man sensitive positions of responsibility in government and the creation of various schemes such as the Youth Entrepreneural Social Support Operations-YESSO program to capture over 5,000 youths across the State.
He thereafter challenged the youth to take advantage of their demographic influence to also create the safe spaces they require as young people taking into cognizance the key cardinal principles of service by mentorship and loyalty.
Special Guests of Honor in attendance included the Commissioner for Mineral Resources Mr. George Oben’etchie, Commissioner for ICT, Chief Aya Offu, Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong
Discussants at the event included, Dr. Betta Edu, Director General, Cross River state Primary HealthCare Development Agency, Ndiyo Ndiyo, State Chairman Youth Council of Nigeria, and Dr. Francis Ntamu, State Economic Adviser among others.
Discussions at the event revolved around
Health, Entrepreneurship/Agriculture, Governance, Youth Inclusiveness, and Education.
High point of the event featured a drama presented by the Girls Power Initiative, Comedy by Effiong aka Ekpri Ikpang-Senator, a question and answer sessions where participants were allowed to freely engage the speakers on Youth inclusiveness and welfare.
