The University of Calabar (UNICAL) management has suspended Anazodo Mary Chinasa, a student in the Department of Public Health, for threatening the life of an examination invigilator.
In a suspension letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, Anazodo Mary made a disturbing WhatsApp post, saying, “If they never kill one invigilator, the rest no go learn” raising concerns on lecturers security.

The management in the letter condemned the statement, citing it as a contravention of the Student Handbook provisions. As a result, Anazodo Mary has been suspended from all academic activities with effect from August 12, 2024, pending the conclusion of an investigation by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
The Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Public Health, and Acting Chief Security Officer have been directed to ensure full compliance with the suspension directive.

Management emphasized that the institution has a zero-tolerance stance on threats and violence, prioritizing the safety and well-being of staff and students.
