A faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River State has described the emergence of the new party leadership in the state as “illegal and unacceptable”.
This came on the heels of the June 2, 2014 State Congress of the party which the aggrieved faction rejected the result for allegedly excluding them from participating in the election.
The faction, led by one of the Chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Ramsey Ndep in the botched State Congress of May 8, 2014 had also dragged the party to court challenging the outcome of the congress.
Speaking on Monday, Ndep frowned at the emergence of the newly inaugurated leadership of the party led by a former Governorship Candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Dr.Usani Usani.
He said, “the emergence of Usani and other executives of the party is not only illegal and unacceptable but against the rule of law because he was not eligible to run for that office. He did not purchase nomination form and as such was not qualified to contest.
The factional leader also described as ‘undemocratic’ the action of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State whom he accused of foisting Usani on the party, stressing that the only recognized party executives were those who emerged during the Congress in May.
His words, “The principle of imposition being adopted by Amaechi will be resisted to the last. We joined APC believing that APC was a democratic platform we could express our democratic instincts. We understand that in democracy there shouldn’t be room for imposition. People are governed by collective acceptance and democracy demands that you subject yourself to the votes of the people if you want to become a leader.
“The emergence of the new Exco is undemocratic and totally unacceptable. We will resist it to the latter because the congress we had on May 8 was not invalidated and whatever congress that held in June 2 was supposed to be a rescheduled congress and the constitution of the party is very clear on those matters.
“Usani was foisted on the people and how he and his cohorts emerged is something Amaechi alone will be able to explain. It cannot stand in law or anywhere because Usani did not participate in the congress of May 8”
